"I believe this clip is from a show we did at the Moore Theater in downtown Seattle. Saint would have been the opening act.
Black Snake became a trademark song for Bloodgood ever since we released it on our first album, much like Crucify and Messiah would from the Detonation record. Black Snake was always our end-of-show song at just about every concert we did.
I remember wanting to write a very intense song about Satan and his ultimate destruction. So much metal at the time was glorifying the devil, but the Bible tells us the truth about him, his purposes and his final judgment and annihilation by the Jesus Christ. So after I had the basic concept of the song, I grabbed a thesaurus and looked up the various names people have used through the ages to describe the devil, "black snake" being one of them. I thought that was such an awesome name for the song and a apt description of the enemy. I wanted the song to be very powerful, very "over the top," almost out of control in its approach, but as it ended to become a victory song about Christ's triumph over him.
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
I was blown away when I heard that Mortification had covered Black Snake on their live album. That was a real first for me. And the way they introduced the song and how they talked about Bloodgood was really awesome. I've never had the chance to personally thank them, but it really meant a lot to me and the band."
